Delegation. Or Thought For A Friday – It is Friday, Right?
My household management style is Delegation. Delegate, delegate, delegate. All day long I delegate small but easily accomplishable tasks to the girls (put jammas in laundry, make me a martini – that sort of thing), and all day every day I walk 3 extra miles shooshing them into doing those small tasks and often physically guiding them through: “Lift UP the dolly! Why have you gone so boneless? I know I grew you both perfectly good skeletons when you were in my tummy, and may fruitbats gnaw the nose from my very living face, if you’re not going to use them”.
Delegation. It looks so easy on “The Apprentice”.

When can you start delegating? I have been trying to delegate a task called ’sleeping through the night’ to Orla for the past 15 months but alas, she continues to defy my (somewhat unconvincing) authority. But hey, sleep – who needs it eh?…eh?….zzzzzzz

Fiona: I think it’s best to start them early. By 18 months I had Katie crawling out to bring me the newspaper in bed and I found that if we put the electric kettle down low enough she could almost always pour me a nice cuppa too without getting horribly scalded. Jane meanwhile was out picking lemons to put in my mid-morning gin & tonic. Not everyone would agree with my methods but I feel my girls are very well adjusted. That whole thing about biting the postman was blown way out of proportion by the media.
